Laura was born in San Jose, CA and raised in the rural community of El Dorado County, CA. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Politics from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and is a California certified advocate for survivors of domestic violence. As a student, Laura’s experiences in feminist organizations drove her to a career in politics. She has experience as a Field Representative with the California Legislature, where she assisted constituents in navigating complicated state policies and programs. Her experience in direct services offered her a complex understanding of social determinants of health in Santa Cruz County and motivated her to work toward systems change. She believes healthcare is a right and is passionate about improving equity across health systems.
