MAT
ADVISORY GROUP
The MAT Advisory Group is a peer support and resource group of physicians, advanced practice clinicians, and behavioral health providers focused on improving opioid use disorder recovery capacity and quality in Santa Cruz and Monterey Counties.
The Advisory Group convenes periodic in-person gatherings in addition to other forms of support: local mentors willing to guide providers that already have or are interested in obtaining a buprenorphine waiver; a Google Group for case discussions, questions, and answers; as well as a Google Drive folder with training and prescribing resources.
We invite all interested healthcare providers to join the MAT Advisory Group.

Providers Clinical Support System MAT Overview and Waiver Training
About: While PCSS provides trainings on a broad range of substance use disorder treatments, its primary focus is on treatment of opioid use disorders (OUD). Opioids include a class of drugs often prescribed for pain—morphine, fentanyl, oxycodone, and hydrocodone—as well as illicit drugs, such as heroin. The Federal Drug Administration (FDA) has approved three medications for the treatment of OUD: methadone, buprenorphine, and naltrexone.
The introductory module below is a case-based discussion of the general approach to evaluation and treatment of patients presenting with problematic opioid use. Benefits and limitations of available medications and differences between them are described. An approach to choosing first and second line treatments is also presented.

American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry (AAAP) 8 Hour Online MAT Waiver Training
About: The American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry (AAAP) is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians. American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry (AAAP) designates this enduring material for a maximum of 8 (eight) AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
Method of participation in the activity:
To be awarded a maximum of 8 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ and a MAT Waiver Training Certificate you must:

Review 8 training modules (8 hours) provided in this activity.

Earn a minimum cumulative score of 75% on the examination. Participants will have three opportunities to correctly answer the examination.

Complete a final evaluation and follow instructions at the end of the course regarding how to retrieve your Certificate of Completion as well as a CME Credit Certificate*.
*Credit will not be awarded unless all components of the program are completed. Partial credit will not be awarded.
Objectives:
At the conclusion of this activity, learners should be able to:

Review addiction identification and evidence-based treatments.

Discuss the pharmacology of opioids as it relates to treatment of opioid use disorder (OUD) patients.

Describe the fundamentals of office-based opioid treatment including the treatment of the co-morbid patient.

Explain the process of buprenorphine induction as well as stabilization and maintenance.

Discuss other approved antagonist and agonist medications to treat OUD.

Discuss basic office protocols including medical record documentation and confidentially.

Utilize evidence-based resources to ensure providers have the confidence to prescribe buprenorphine for patients with OUD.

Apply for a MAT Waiver Training Certificate to begin treating patients with OUD.
