AmeriCorps VISTA Coalition Assistant
Ciaran Murphy, a bay area native, has spent much of his life pursuing positions of service. After completing a B.S. in Biochemistry from Boston College, he worked with the Washington AIDS Partnership in our nation’s capitol. In DC, Ciaran worked with various public health agencies that share the collective goal of reducing HIV transmission rates and alleviating the stressors of poverty. Over the course of this yearlong fellowship, he witnessed the insidious ties that exist between health, poverty, and identity. This shocking firsthand experience with different social determinants of health is the driving force behind his decision to get involved with upstream public health work. As a yearlong AmeriCorps Vista, Ciaran hopes to build capacity within HIP’s SafeRx initiative and advocate for people that live with addiction.
